Snore-Ex is an anti-snoring oral appliance that is designed to move the jaw forward. At least that’s one of the possibilities but exactly how this product works is a bit of a mystery.

Inadequate product Information on Website

Detailed information about this mouthpiece is difficult to find online. The product is sold through Amazon and is made by TRI Point Labs.

Apart from the information on Amazon there is also a Snore-Ex online website where some product information is available. What you actually find when you read the information provided about the Snore-Ex anti-snoring device is minimal, sketchy and conflicting.

Conflicting product descriptions

The following two statements are taken directly from product descriptions on both the Snore-Ex website and on the Amazon website:

  • The Snore-Ex Stop Snoring Mouthpiece helps by slightly repositioning your lower jaw forward and widening the gap for a constant unrestricted airway.
  • Unlike other boil and bite mouthpieces, Snore-Ex does not bring the mandibular jaw forward.

Both of the above descriptions are describing the same Snore-Ex mouthpiece. One statement explains that the mouthpiece does not bring the jaw forward while the other statement says exactly the opposite!

It would be unwise to purchase the Snore-Ex mouthpiece when even the manufacturer of the product is unclear about how it actually works.

Look for Tri-Lab Seal

There also appears to be a problem with authenticity of the Snore-Ex Mouthpiece product when it is sold online by sellers other than the seller listed on Amazon.

If you do order one of these devices make sure to look for the Tri-Lab seal which should be affixed across the opening of the product box. If you are ordering any place other than Amazon you could be getting an inferior product.

The makers of Snore-Ex appear to be worried enough about this problem that they choose to address the issue on their website home page.

Custom fitting at home

Like other boil and bite mouthpieces the Snore-Ex most likely arrives needing you to follow some specific instructions to customize its fit.

The thermoplastic it is made of will soften when placed into boiling water for a specific amount of time. The device is then placed into your mouth and you bite down into the softened material.

The plastic will then conform to the shape of your teeth.

Now this is where it all begins to get a bit foggy. Usually the person being fitted moves their jaw forward while biting into the softened plastic.

One description of Snore-Ex clearly says this is how the fitting is done the other description says the opposite.

Will it stop your snoring?

So, will the Snore-Ex stop your snoring? It’s possible but given the conflicting information about the design of the Snore-Ex it’s really hard to know what the anti-snoring potential of this particular mouthpiece really is.

In any event, this device will probably work well to help you out by providing a barrier between your upper and lower teeth if you are one of the many people who have a tendency to grind at night; but whether or not it will stop your snoring , is another issue altogether.

Final Words about the Snore-Ex

Even if turns out that the Snore-Ex does work to move the jaw into a slightly forward position this, in itself, may not work to end your night-time noisiness.

The tongue will still remain free to slip backwards as it often does when you relax and fall asleep at night. By far the most common cause of snoring is the blockage that occurs when the relaxed tongue puts pressure on the airway at the back of the mouth and top of the throat. Read more here.

Which device should I choose?

No one can answer this question for you. Your mouth and needs are unique, so one that I love or that your neighbor swears by may not be the best solution for you.

There are numerous products available to choose from, so if you are feeling overwhelmed this is perfectly normal. I have written several reviews on products I have personally tried and you can always use the chart I compiled for comparison purposes.
